As a human being, you are naturally geared toward personal growth and change. Within you is a “compass” of sorts. Working at its best, it strives to keep you aware, manages your sense of identity across time, and calls you toward your fullest self. If you’re considering counseling, it’s probably because you sense that something is holding you back. Life so rarely goes as planned. Whether you are wrestling with questions of identity and meaning, recovering from difficult experiences, or experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, or a major life transition, it might feel like your inner compass has lost its direction.
Counseling is a unique process geared toward removing obstacles to your growth, clarifying your inner values and strengths, and igniting positive change. This process will be different for every person. You might enter counseling with a specific goal in mind, or you might be unsure of exactly what you are seeking. However you find yourself, there is no “right” or “wrong” way to begin. I’m here to be your ally in realigning with your internal compass, a resource in planning changes, and a support as you create change in your life.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
I believe in treating you as a whole person, not simply a set of problems to be solved. At one point or another, nearly everyone has experienced trauma, self-doubt, criticism, judgement, or feeling as if they have to “justify” themselves to others at times. The last thing you need is to feel any of these things coming from your counselor. This is why I work from a “Person-Centered” framework, in which my first priority is to provide a warm, accepting environment in which you feel genuinely understood. This atmosphere of trust, respect, and confidentiality is key to effective therapy and a powerful tool for making the changes you desire.
As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), I enjoy working with both teens (14 and up) and adults. My specialties include anxiety, depression, interpersonal relationships, grief & loss work, substance use challenges, and identity/existential concerns. I take an integrative approach to therapy, utilizing evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-based practices, and Harm Reduction strategies. I am passionate about championing my clients’ individuality and diversity. Many people have some hesitancy around beginning their counseling process- this is quite normal! When you are ready, I look forward to speaking with you for a free 30 minute consultation to discuss how we might collaborate together.
